Te Awamutu Museum provides a variety of educational experiences at a variety of locations across the Waipa District. Our educational offering caters for school aged students, and is funded by the Ministry of Education and the Waipa District Council.
Help you students understand how precious water is. Find out what is really involved from turning on the tap to flushing the toilet. Explore our wetlands, visit the National Wetland Centre, and discover the vital role this ecosystem play in the water cycle.
Down the Drain
Our wastewater is carried through a network of underground pipes and pumps to the Te Awamutu and Cambridge Wastewater Treatment Plant. At one of these facilities, students will discover what happens to anything that goes down the drain.

Water, Water Everywhere?
Students learn how to be waterwise! At one of Waipa’s water treatment stations, students investigate the importance of valuing water as a precious resource. They compare water use around the world and view the various treatment station components. The programme finishes with a range of problem solving and reinforcement activities.

Wetlands - Waikato's kidneys
Take a trip to Lake Rotopiko, New Zealands National Wetland Centre land and an important habitat for native wetland plants and birds. Students learn about the biodiversity of the wetland, go pond-dipping to discover the underwater species, and get behind a pair of binoculars to check out the huge variety of bird life.
Water, wetlands and forests

Forest entomology for early learners
Our programme aims to inspire students to become future scientists, environmentalists, or entomologists. We’ll also encourage them to respect and care and understand about the animals and creatures (wetland) that play a vital role in our environment and ecosystem.
